RUMBLES CALLS FOR SEPTIC TANK FEE WAIVER EXTENTION

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 11th Jun 2009

West Aberdeenshire & Kincardine MSP Mike Rumbles has called on the Scottish Government to extend the deadline requiring people with septic tanks to pay a £100 registration fee.

Householders with septic tanks are now required to register them with SEPA at a cost of £100. This fee was waived until 31st May but is now in place.

After being contacted by constituents who were unaware of the requirement, Mr Rumbles has now written to Environment Minister Roseanna Cunningham, asking her to extend the fee waiver period.

Mr Rumbles said:

"I have been contacted by many constituents who were unaware of the requirement to register their septic tanks with SEPA and also that the £100 fee was being waived until 31st May.

"It is clear that attempts to publicise these matters have not been as successful as it had been hoped and I have therefore urged the Minister to extend the fee waiver to allow as many people as possible to register their septic tank with SEPA."
